West Vancouver BC is a city north of Vancouver, across the Lions Gate Bridge. It is a much bigger city than one expects. West Vancouver stretches west along either Marine Drive (the scenic route) or Highway 99 (the fast route) to Horseshoe Bay, where a BC Ferries terminal sits, allow people to head to Nanaimo, the Gulf Islands.
West Vancouver has two neighbourhoods along Marine Drive: Ambleside and Dundarave, which are noted for antiques, crafts and boutiques, giving the city a village sense. For main stream shopping, Park Royal shopping centre has grown to two sides of Marine Drive at Taylor Way.
A must do for nature lovers is Lighthouse Park. It has a wonderful walk to an 1874 Lighthouse which takes you past towering Douglas Fir and, after a good clamber over some rough terrain, to the most amazing view of English Bay.
For skiers, Cypress Bowl is a clearly marked exit from Highway 99 and is considered a local ski hill for Vancouver.
West Vancouver accommodations range from hotels to bed and breakfasts.
The Classic Horseshoe Bay Motel is within a 5-minute walk of the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal to Vancouver Island. It offers a flat-screen TV, fireplace and free Wi-Fi, microwave and refrigerator in every room. It is a completely non-smoking motel with free on-site parking. Downtown Vancouver is 30 minutes away by car.
