Sprockids Mountain Bike Park
Sprockids Mountain Bike Park is a special place. Last year it celebrated its 20th anniversary sharing our amazing forests with kids through the love of mountain biking. Teaching kids to ride safely with family and friends in a sanctioned park with educational components. This system is now used across Canada. Here it is 2km from my front door and I place where I love to hike. Capilano University’s Mountain Bike Operations students have built a number of trails over the past few years as part of their coursework applications. Recently, students organized a workday to install over 30 signs throughout […]
The Three Reasons to Visit Roberts Creek BC
Roberts Creek is smaller than you might think, but if you are running up and down the Sunshine Coast Highway, make sure to head toward the water along Roberts Creek Road. The key reasons are: 1. The Shops are quite quaint as is the architecture. There’s a lost Hippy feeling to it that is unique. The stores include a General Store and a children’s clothing shop. 2. The Beach. At the end of Roberts Creek Road is a tiny parking lot (brace yourself for disappointment at finding a spot on a sunny day) where you can park and walk down […]
Getting to the Sunshine Coast
Considering the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia is actually part of the BC mainland, it’s odd that you need to take a 40 minute ferry ride to get there. BC Ferries provides the same sort of ships from Horseshoe Bay that they do when you sail to Victoria or Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. You arrive in Langdale and then you drive the Sunshine Coast Highway (a.k.a. Highway 101) to your destination. When driving this highway, keep in mind that it’s all two-lane undivided roadway, which isn’t what a lot of us consider a highway. There are a lot of […]
My Top 10 Restaurants on the Sunshine Coast
I travel a lot around the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands for business. Here’s a list of places I love to go to and, after 18 years on living on the Sunshine Coast, I can confirm that they are good eateries, reasonable prices and good service. The order is not meant to show favourtism, it’s just the order that came into my head. 1. Nagomi Sushi Bar 446 Marine DrGibsons, BC604 886-2562 Small little, mom & pop operation right by the Harbour in lower Gibsons. Vancouver quality but Sunshine Coast prices, meaning it’s a real deal. A […]
Indoor Tennis on the Sunshine Coast
Looking for Indoor Tennis while travelling on the Sunshine Coast? The Suncoast Racquet Club has opened the only indoor tennis facility on the Sunshine Coast, offering residents from Pender Harbour, Sechelt, Roberts Creek, Gibsons and Langdale an affordable year round option. Currently it is available only to members for court bookings, however it is open to the general public in regards to clinics, workshops and specific drop in times. The club anticipates it will be available for specific time bookings to the general public sometime in the summer of 2009. Our coach Jacques Joyal is offering programs specifically geared for […]
Hopkins Landing Beach
Hopkins Landing is a short walk from the Langdale ferry terminal and a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon while visiting BC’s http://www.TravelInBC.com/SunshineCoast.cfm . There is a park bench out on the dock which stretches far enough out into Howe Sound, that you get the feeling you are actually out on the water. You can gaze back at the public beach that stretches 5 km all the way into http://www.TravelInBC.com/Gibsons.cfm . You can sit, relax and listen to the birds and the constant ebb and flow of the tide. In the summer, this is a popular swimming spot and […]
