The editors of this website asked local businesses for the essential recommendations for Sorrento.

We asked them: “If you imagine that someone has come to you and they are on a totally tight time line, and asked you these questions, what would you tell them?”

1. Where should I eat that I should not miss in Sorrento?

Answer:
Always a great place to eat would be Toby’s Restaurant which is at 1258 Trans Canada Highway right in the middle of Sorrento. This breakfast and lunch only place has been around for many years and the owner, Mandy, believes in fresh homemade foods that are good and good for you. The food is served very fast and with a smile by the waitresses. A great thing about her food is there are no deep fried types such as French fries and her pop selection comes in a can so you can’t keep getting refills which takes away from the quality of the food and also adds to the girth of your stomach!.
 
Also a place that has been around for quite a few years and has changed hands and names just as many times is Sunset Cove Marina and Grill which is located at 2001 Eagle Bay Road in Blind Bay. Over the last few years this place, which is located right on the Shuswap Lake, has (with new owners) been transformed into a very nice place to have a relaxed meal overlooking the bay while you enjoy one of the beautiful sunsets. This year they have a new award winning Chef, Marc Schoene, a local resident who is there to prepare his culinary delights at a very reasonable cost and looking over the list of some of his specialties is enough to make your mouth water. I have partaken in his culinary delights at other venues and they are absolutely delightful.

2. If I only have time for one outdoor activity, what should I see or do in Sorrento?

Answer:
One outdoor activity that most people don’t know about is an automobile type museum called Jims Ford Corral Museum which is located South of Sorrento at 1822 Davies Road off of Notch Hill Road. This is no ordinary museum because it is filled with gas station memorabilia, farm equipment and scale model toys. There are lots of old service station signs, horse drawn farm equipment and a replica of an old-time general store filled to the rafters with what would have been the staples of survival a long time ago when the old general store was the only place to shop for settlers of a bygone era.
 
The owners, Jim and Sue are always ready to tell you a story about what some of the machinery is and how it was used, the age and probably who owned it and how they got to be the new owners of a piece of history. I have seen Jim at auctions looking for interesting prizes to put into the museum and he really does know his stuff.

3. Is there a museum or cultural site that is a must-see to represent Sorrento?

Answer:
Another museum of sorts would be Blind Bay Furnishings which is located at 2176 Trans Canada Highway in Sorrento. This man, Al McClelland, is what you would imagine a mountain man to be like. A big barrel chest and a white beard and always dressed in work clothes. His Blind Bay Furnishings business specializes in custom made furniture and bed frames made out of actual real wood branches and logs. The other business that he has at his location is his specialization in antique and Indian artifacts. If there is something about Indian artifacts that you want to know, I think he would be the person to talk to. He also has lots of artifacts for sale ranging from jackets, moccasins, blankets, snow shoes and probably anything else that would have been used by the North American Native many years ago.He has sold to people all around the world as well as renting actual real clothing to movie companies to be used in their films. He is a wealth of knowledge about the history of the North American Native as well.
