Free Vancouver Attractions for Parents and Kids
One of the best parts about Vancouver in the summer is the number of places to go and things to do that are free, or very inexpensive.
On a hot day, nothing beats a water park. These are my favourites in or near downtown Vancouver:
Variety Kids Water Park at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park
This water park is located just off the seawall along the north side of Stanley Park, across from an attraction known as Lumbermans’s Arch. There are plenty of things to climb on and kids can run through water geysers and canons. The waterfall is lots of fun and there is even a small river running through the middle for the really little ones that don’t like to get splashed.
The water park is free and is open from the May long weekend until Labour Day.
Harbour Green Park in Coal Harbour
Located along the north seawall of the downtown peninsula, directly off Coal Harbour, which is part of Burrard Peninsula. This water park initially appears rather cold and industrial, made entirely of concrete. But is has great geysers of water shooting up, which is loads of fun to run through, especially for older kids. The huge concrete steps can get a bit slippery for toddlers.
