Italian Food Before a Movie in Kitsilano Vancouver

There’s a 19+ years of age movie theatre in Vancouver at 5th and Burrard (Fifth Avenue Cinemas). For the people who don’t want to deal with children, there’s an option for you. For my friend and I, children aren’t the problem (we have our own) it’s the choice of movee. Dunkirk is not for pre teens.

At 5:30 PM on a Friday we managed to get a table for two outside at Trattoria in Kitsilano on 4th Avenue. We did not have reservations but what I see on other sites tells me that if you are tight for time, reservations aren’t a bad idea.

It was a glorious summer night and sitting outside was wonderful. 4th Ave is a busy street but there was only one loud stinky pickup truck that annoyed us. Inside has an open kitchen concept and suitably dark and Italian feel.

Due to dietary restrictions, I had not had Italian in ages and was drawn to the Veal Parmigiana at $21.95. There was enough veal to make it filling and they had an interesting crispy way of handling brussel sprouts. Ironically, I managed to go to an Italian restaurant and — without thinking — completely avoided wheat!

Because we’re kind of cheap, my friend decided to try the unnamed red wine, which was $5 a glass. The next one on the wine list was $6.75. It was a basic sensible red and we had a second glass.

So, now you know what dinner movie combo to try!
