Ymir BC is a small community, population of 200 - 300, in the West Kootenays, which is about 29 km (18 mi.) south of Nelson.  Ymir's history is rooted in mining; in the 1860s silver, copper and gold were discovered and mined.

When visiting, make sure to check out The Ymir Arts and Museum Society, which promotes the Arts and Culture in Ymir and the preservation the Ymir Schoolhouse so it can be a venue for community Arts and Cultural events.

The historic Hotel Ymir is nestled in the beautiful Selkirk Mountains along the Salmo River. Built in 1896, during the mining boom years of the Salmo River Valley region, the hotel is one of the oldest remaining buildings in the region.
