Important landmarks, unique to Cowichan, can be missed in the rush to drive between Victoria and Nanaimo. Duncan, for example, started as a village with a post office named Duncan's Station. The city has been erecting totem poles since 1985.

Chemainus is famous for having faced devastation as a result of a saw mill closure and turning the situation around. This was done by painting many heritage buildings with murals depicting local history. The town is now tourist destination that attracts over 300,000 visitors per year.

Cowichan Bay is south of Duncan. Its first inhabitants were the Cowichan First Nation. You can learn about Cowichan culture at The Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre.

Find a refuge from the snares of life in our spacious 1920s Heritage home & beautiful garden. Sleep soundly in an antique double bed in our Heritage Room or the quiet space of our Vista Room in a queen or twin beds. After a delicious breakfast explore the old British enclave of our Duncan neighbourhood. Find the elephant tree on the way to Somenos Creek. Plan a day of Cowichan Bay whale watching.
